Industry-leading noise cancellation

WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones use eight microphones for noise cancellation to reduce more high- and mid-frequency sound, from airplane noise to voices. Auto NC Optimizer adjusts cancellation based on wearing conditions and environment, including factors such as atmospheric pressure.

Multi Noise Sensor Technology and processing

Eight microphones capture ambient sound for stronger high-frequency noise reduction. Sony’s Integrated Processor V1 works with the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN1 to control the microphone array for advanced cancellation performance.

Driver and sound quality

A new 30mm precision-engineered driver with a soft TPU edge improves low-frequency cancellation while you listen. A lightweight, rigid carbon fiber composite dome supports clarity, especially in high frequencies. Sony cites premium lead-free solder with gold, Fine Sound Resistor, and optimized circuitry for consistent signal quality.

High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio Wireless are supported via LDAC, transmitting roughly three times more data than conventional Bluetooth audio for high-resolution wireless playback.

Calls and voice

Precise Voice Pickup Technology and advanced signal processing keep hands-free calls clear in noise. Four beamforming microphones focus on your voice with an improved signal-to-noise ratio. Noise reduction uses AI machine learning trained on more than 500 million voice samples.

Everyday features

Speak-to-Chat pauses music and lets in ambient sound when you speak, then resumes playback when the conversation ends. A capacitive wear sensor pauses music when headphones are removed and resumes when you put them back on.

Voice control works with OK Google or Alexa for assistants, reminders, notifications, and headphone features including noise cancellation; Google Assistant or Siri can interact with Microsoft Outlook email and Microsoft Teams meetings.

Multipoint Connection pairs two Bluetooth devices at once, connects to the ringing device for calls, and lets you switch between paired devices quickly.
